My Internship project was to create events for the two junior youth groups at the temple, J2 (4th-5th graders) and NOAR (6th-8th graders), for next year. It was important because it planning for the events so far in advance allows for the temple to get any reservations they need sooner rather than later. The process to do this contained a lot of thinking outside the box and a lot of listening to other people for suggestions and brain storming.
My views of life beyond high school have changed a lot in these past few weeks. At first I thought that there is only one path for me to take, but now I realize I have many options. One thing I grew to appreciate while working as an intern was how appreciative people were when I helped someone else out.
My mock Interview I did with my mentors was very eye opening. I realized that it is more than what you say, but it is also how you present yourself. I was taught that whenever you are asked a question like, what are your weaknesses, you should respond in a way that makes that weakness sound like a positive. Everything I did while interning for the temple I think made a significant contribution to their future plans. I think I helped them shape what next year will be like and allowed my colleges to focus on other tasks. In the end I'm sure I made a difference. Also this internship allowed me to see what I am really like in the workplace. I am happy of who the person I turned out to be and I wish I was as responsible in school when it came to work as I am in my internship.
What I learned about choosing a college is that there is no shame in not going to a big time four year. Instead it's okay to go to one that is less well known and is better suited to my abilities. I also learned that its okay to transfer to another college if I am not happy with one I am already in.
I think a time where I showed self advocacy would be during the meetings that I would be involved in that would affect events in the future and that I would be listened to. One meeting was about a change in web page design and I had a suggestion and I was listened to. So In the end even though I haven't worked at a place for only a few week I have been listened to like I have been there for years.
For my internship project I am creating, planning, and participating in youth group events. The grades of these youth groups are J2 (4th and 5th grade) and NOAR (6th, 7th, and 8th grade). The skills I will need in order for my project to be a success are to be really organized, be very creative, and persistence. The support I will need is from my mentor Gilad Hoffman, because I will be able to bounce off ideas or ask for advise on a certain idea,
One question I have for my internship would be, do the things I learn in school help prepare me for a real job? Some connections I can make between school and internship is that it is a lot of organization and being focus. What school also teaches you is how to work when someone isn't constantly reminding you what you need to do. In my four days their one thing that happened was that it was someones birthday so I got to meet everyone in the office and the other High Tech High intern. I learned that having all the projects that need to be complete should be in your sight at all times, and that it is a major thing to put down where you are at with a specific task when you move on to something else. I am developing my planning skills, especially when it comes to an event for 20 or more people.
